Old Quebec City 2010
I picked up a Canon 7D shortly before traveling to Old Quebec City, one of the oldest cities in North America. Founded in 1608, it provided some amazing European-style architecture to photograph. The entire city was brightly-colored, and I tried to recapture this through the traditional film development techniques that are now possible digitally. In this instance, direct positive techniques were used (special thanks to Adobe for opening up the possibilities).

Quarters 2010
Quarters is a quick test video I put together to test out my new Canon 50mm Macro Lens, which allows some pretty precise depth of field control & very high-quality extreme close-ups.

For the fun of it, I threw in a quick soundtrack I composed off the cuff in a couple of hours to add some mood to the single, minute-long shot.

HDR Photography 2010
HDR photography opens up a whole new range of creativity with digital photography - here are some of my attempts. These are all straight, unretouched photos - using multiple exposures it's possible to create high-detail, high-impact photos that aren't possible with traditional photography.

A Deep Creature 2009
I've always wanted to draw a comic book (we call them "graphic novels" in nerd-speak) but haven't been interested in over-built people in tights for quite some time. Farming my brain for ideas, I thought it would be fun to put a comedic spin on some HP Lovecraft-style otherworldy horror, resulting in this story.

Zombies.
The title says it all. In my spare time doodling, tossing around ideas, etc. I often find myself illustrating unspeakable horrors - mostly because they're more fun to draw than children playing with puppies. These illustrations also serve as a good test bed for any style ideas I'm playing around with, and I often go back to revise them as I learn new illustration and painting techniques.

Windy 2009
Playing around with a more traditional inking style than the "fine-tip pen" look I usually use for my personal work, this was a quick - maybe half an hour - sketch that ended up taking on a life of its own. I'll definitely have to pursue more work in this style in the future, as the loose nature of drawing this way is very freeing as an artist.

Cables & Wires 2008

Nuclear Summer 2008
My first real "test" of combining hand-drawn artwork and 3D. I strongly dislike illustrating technical devices, because it's more the work of a ruler than any specific drawing skills; in this case, I created a simple 3D model for the vault door and pipes, then used a toon shader tweaked to match the inking style I was going for to create the lineart for the background. The entire image was then brought into Photoshop for coloring, same as I would do with any 2D illustration.
